Today we tested the different phases of matter by using dry. We watched as a solid became a liquid and how a liquid can become a gas which is called sublimation. To see a liquid become a gas we placed dry ice in water and saw as the water around it steamed up. We did a couple of different experiments for fun. We put a layer of soap over the beaker with dry ice and water and the steam filled the bubble that it formed. We also put a 2 centimeter piece of dry ice into a balloon to watch what and explain what happened. We were trying to find out about the different phases (liquid, solid, and gas) by exploring with dry ice (solid CO2).
We measured the balloon at the end to see how much it expanded. Ours expand to 18 centimeters in diameter, now I need to find out the volume. To find the volume of a sphere the equation is 4/3 πr3. We take the diameter and divide it by two to get our radius.
