There are many elements on the periodic table, and combining certain elements can give you different reactions. In our lungs just breathing causes little explosions of oxygen atoms giving our body the necessary oxygen to live.
Some elements on the periodic table don't have the necessary electrons to be complete. They try to take electrons from other elements. Some elements have to many electrons so try to get ride of them. Some elements can loss electrons through a process called oxidation.
We attempted to was to control a small explosion in an ejection charge. To practice for making a model rocket ejection charge. I shows how exciting a chemical reaction can be even in our labs.

Materials
1/2 inch PVC pipe 1 inch length
Potassium Nitrate
Sugar (Sorbitol)
Hydraulic Cement
Process
Andrew our Teacher melted down the sugar and potassium nitrate together until it was a liquid. We covered the flatter ended of our PVC pipe with masking tape. Then Andrew poured the liquid gently into our PVC pipe about fifteen minutes later after everyone's was done being poured ours was hard. Andrew then mixed up some Hydraulic Cement and covered the exposed side of the pipe.
Two days later (today 3/12/15) Andrew made a hole in our side of the pipe with cement to make a nozzle. Then he covered the other side with a pipe cover for PVC pipes. Andrew stuck a fuse into the cement hole and then attached the ejection charge to a stand and lite it. This is what happened.
The Fuses lite the hardened fuel and started burning it was all forced out the side with the cement nozzle it had enough force it moved the stand. Smoke was everywhere, after it burned through the fuel the pipe was hot. This ejection charge in the future when I make one, mostly on my own, will eject a parachute an go in my model rocket I look forward to it.
