After that process of the design I made some critiques. From there I grabbed some paper and wrapped it around the PVC pipe to see how far down I wanted my rocket to go on the PVC pipe. I decided to make it go down 10 inches (it ended up being 11 inches). I used that paper, making it my first draft of my rocket. From there I started making the fins of the rocket. I made the side adjacent to the rocket 4 inches as well as the length of the bottom of the fin. The top of the fin was 5 inches. Now at that point I had a small triangle I then traced making three copies the same size.
My next step was make another paper tube to fit on the 1/2 PVC pipe. This time I used cardstock wrapping it around PVC pipe I found it was a bit difficult to move after a certain point I realized it was getting harder to wrap the cardstock in comparison to the paper. Had someone else tape the cardstock together as I held it together. After that I put more tape from the top to the bottom of the card stock to keep it together. Next using the fins I made before. I tapped them to the cardstock trying to keep them an equal distance apart ( I realized later that two were a bit farther away from each other but I left it).
On the other end of side of the tube that didn't have the fins I took some masking tape and covered it. I used eight one inch pieces of masking tape to cover it. I covered it so that when it is fired it the air would have something to press off. I put enough tape so that it would not fly of the top. Then I took another piece of cardstock bent it in the center then wrapped it into a cone over the top of the rocket. I cut the sides so it lined up with the tape. Then I wrapped that cone three times with masking tape.
In my next step I took paper mache and covered the entire rocket. The following day the mache hardened. Then I painted the whole thing green. When that was dry we took all the rockets people in the class made and shot them off the air compressor. From viewing it launch I was surprised how high it went. In my next attempt I can make a new rocket that will go even higher.
